Paa declared tax free by Modi govt

Bollywood News: Gujarat government has today declared Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachan’s Bolywood movie Paa tax free in the state.

Sources in the Gujarat government said that a three-member committee consisting of the Principal Secretary – Finance, Secretary, Youth and Culture and State Information Commissioner recommended exemption of the movie from entertainment tax for all the cimema houses in the state.

The Gujarat government’s decision has come after Amitabh’s AB Corp organised a special screening of the latest bollywood movie for the Chief Minister Narendra Modi in presence of superstar Amitabh Bachan at a multiplex in Gandhinagar.

Amitabh Bachan is said to have specially come from Mumbai for screening of the movie and had appealed before the Chief Minister of Gujarat to exempt it from the entertainment tax in the state.

“We have organised the screening of Paa so that the Bollywood film which is based on subject of physically challenged children gets tax exemption,” Bachchan told reporters.

The point to be noted is that there are hundreds of cinema houses including 22 multiplexes in the state of Gujarat and according to a bollywood survey, the annual income from the entertainment tax is around Rs 22-crore.
